The bench headed by the Chief Justice, Aparesh Kumar Singh, declared that ‘Danam Nagender stands disqualified from April 23, 2024, as a member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly having contested from Secunderabad Lok Sabha on the Congress ticket in 2024, after getting elected as MLA as a BRS candidate the previous year.’ The bench of the Chief Justice and Justice G.M. Nagender had to be disqualified as MLA as per paragraph 2 (1) (a) of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution since he won as MLA on the BRS ticket. ‘Without resigning from the BRS party from which he got elected as MLA in December of 2023, he contested on the Congress ticket as MP from Secunderabad in May of 2024,’ the two petitioners argued. Nagender, nine other BRS MLAs eventually switched loyalty to the Congress party during March-August of 2024. Nagender and two other BRS MLAs who joined the Congress. Questioning the Division Bench’s order, the BRS party moved the Supreme Court. BJP MLA Maheshwar Reddy separately filed another petition against Mr.

The Mamata Banerjee-led faction has been assigned the name ‘Mamata All India Trinamool Congress’ with the symbol ‘football player.’ Meanwhile, the Arup Roy-led faction has been allotted the name ‘Democratic Trinamool Congress’ with the ‘envelope’ symbol. It said the papers of Safiuzzaman Saikh, who filed nomination from Rejinagar, and Ehteshmul Haque, who filed nomination from Nandigram, with documents signed by Arup Roy, shall be considered as candidates put up by the ‘Democratic Trinamool Congress’ having the symbol ‘Envelope’. Similarly, the nominations of Rabiul Alam Chowdhury in Rejinagar and Sanchita Pradhan (Dey) in Nandigram with documents signed by Mamata Banerjee shall be considered as candidates put up by the ‘Mamata All India Trinamool Congress’ having the symbol ‘Football Player’. The move is a setback for Mamata, whose hand-drawn ‘Jora Ghash Phul’ symbol had been central to TMC’s journey since its formation in 1998 after breaking away from the Congress. Polling began at 8.30 a.m. for the four central panel posts, namely president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary, along with college representatives. Last year, student elections across a majority of Delhi University colleges recorded a voter turnout of approximately 39.45%. The election this year is an intense contest involving the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and the All India Students Association (AISA)-Students’ Federation of India (SFI) alliance. ABVP has fielded Yash Dabas for president, Ishu Maurya for vice-president, Riya Chhawadi for secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh for joint secretary. The NSUI candidates are Vijay Shankar Meena for president, Vir Chatrath for vice-president, Namrata Chaudhary for secretary and Gopal Choudhary for joint secretary.
