Congress MP Manish Tewari, a member of the committee, said the suggestion that Opposition members had endorsed the proposal by not recording a dissent was “unfounded and unfortunate”. “With great respect, this is both erroneous and fallacious and therefore facetious,” Mr. Tewari said, referring to the BJP MP’s assertion that the Congress MPs on the panel endorsed the move. Responding to reports quoting Mr. Mahtab as saying that the presence of Opposition members and their participation in the panel’s report were matters of record, Mr. Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh, tagging Mr. The Congress had on Thursday also rejected the government’s assertion that its MPs had backed the UPI fee proposal.

File | Photo Credit: PTI The Congress on Friday (September 18, 2026) accused the Madhya Pradesh authorities of pressurising coaching centres and student hostels in Indore to prevent youth from taking part in Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s Chhatron Ki Goonj event, scheduled for Saturday (September 19, 2026). Congress media and publicity department chairman Pawan Khera took to X on Friday evening (September 18, 2026) to allege that coaching centre operators are being “threatened and being forced to sign statements” to take responsibility for the safety of students attending Mr. Gandhi’s outreach programme. Congress said police have stressed that crowd control is a shared responsibility of the organisers and police, while asking the party to deploy at least 1,500 volunteers, including 500 women. “The Madhya Pradesh Police has crossed all limits of shamelessness. A government that intimidates people instead of protecting them is announcing its own failure.” Earlier in the day, the State Congress said that the police’s security conditions document stated that the “Verma Commission report has analysed the role of event organisers and local political activists in great depth and detail…and the Commission clarified that the organisers’ irresponsible attitude was the primary reason for the security breakdown in the Sriperumbudur incident on May 21, 1991.” M.P. unit president Jitu Patwari slammed the BJP Government over the issue and said that Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination had been mentioned in the police permission for the first time in any Congress event. Gandhi’s event, the Congress levelled various allegations at the Madhya Pradesh authorities, including the denial of a permit to use the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for the event, and an additional bill of ₹4 lakh for using government land at the alternate venue for more than the permitted days.

A new kind of AI model from a ChatGPT inventor is thrilling developers

Almeida was an OpenAI researcher who helped build the chatbot and then invent reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), the model-training technique perhaps most responsible for our current age of AI. But despite its capabilities, he was disappointed. “We have lightning in a bottle, and yet it is not useful,” Almeida told TechCrunch. “I’ve been battling that problem since then. It took me a while to come to the conclusion: the problem is we are optimizing for human language … We have been super good at human language for four years, but it’s not useful for automation because computers speak a different language.” Two years ago, Almeida left OpenAI to start TypeSafe AI , a startup trying to fix that problem. This week, the company released a new transformer-based model, Jev , that is not a large language model (LLM). It doesn’t output text, but instead produces probabilities, or what the company calls “calibrated decisions.” Eschewing language does a few things: It makes the model incredibly cheap and fast, and because users define the outputs in advance, it cannot hallucinate. Its output tokens are free, and input tokens are metered by the billion, not the million. Developers are taking a great interest in the product; the company briefly lost the ability to serve users from its API because demand was so high. Jev appears most useful for software automation. Predicting whether a given workload requires a specific model would be useful, but using an LLM for the job would be expensive. File. | Photo Credit: Special arrangement, ANI Congress candidate Milan Pradhan for the by-election for the Nandigram constituency was arrested on Friday (September 18, 2026) by the West Bengal police in an old case. This came an hour after Mamata Banerjee said she would support the Congress candidate after her own candidate withdrew the nomination. “I am shocked by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s aggressive mentality; they will not let anyone contest the elections. Will no other party exist, and will there be no democracy?“ Congress State president Subhankar Sarkar said after their candidate’s arrest. The Congress will neither be intimidated nor silenced,” he said in a post on X. Sources in the Congress alleged that WBPCC general secretary Subhasish Bhattacharya had also been arrested. “Mr. This is completely politically motivated,” senior Congress leader and spokesperson Suman Roy Choudhuri told The Hindu on Friday (September 18, 2026). Pradhan was one of the frontline leaders during the Nandigram protests, according to Congress leaders. On Friday afternoon (September 18, 2026), Sanchita Pradhan (De), the Mamata All India Trinamool Congress candidate for Nandigram, revoked her nomination after an alleged meeting with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
