On Tuesday (November 3, 2026), West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and BJP leader and former Union Minister Smriti Irani criticised the coming together of the Mamata Banerjee and Congress party. Adhikari referred to Congress as a “4G” party, referring to (Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) as “3G” (Karunanidhi, M.K. Stalin and Udhayanidhi Stalin), and Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress and Lalu Prasad Yadav Rashtriya Janata Dal as “2G” (Mamata Banerjee-Abhishek Banerjee and Lalu Prasad-Tejashwi Yadav). BJP leader Smriti Irani, who held a press conference in Kolkata also spoke in a similar vein accusing the Trinamool Congress of trampling democracy in the State by unleashing attacks on BJP workers and committing atrocities on women workers. “Today those political goons are joining hands with the Congress at Ramlila Maidan,” she said. West Bengal Congress president Subhankar Sarkar on Tuesday (November 3, 2026) called on all the Opposition parties to come together, keeping their flags aside and instead using “white flags”. Only a few weeks ago, Mamata Banerjee had decided to support Congress candidates in the Nandigram by-polls after her party’s nominee withdrew candidates at the last moment. Reacting to the signs of new political alignment emerging, State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya called Mamata Banerjee, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and CPI(M) State Secretary Md.

A Bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and K. Vinod Chandran dismissed four appeals filed by Chetan and Nitin Sabharwal, while upholding income tax reassessment notices issued for assessment years 2008-09 and 2009-10. Justice Sabharwal served as the 36th Chief Justice of India (November 1, 2005 to January 14, 2007) and had a long judicial career spanning the Delhi High Court, Bombay High Court, and the Supreme Court of India. The top court said the notice issued by the Income Tax Department dated March 31, 2015, rested on valid "reason to believe" under Sections 147 and 148 of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
