Baiju and fellow members. It indicts the chairperson and other members for criminal breach of trust and wrongful employment of their constitutionally sanctioned authority to tilt the playing field in favour of candidates owing allegiance to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] by tweaking the rank list for the post of Fisheries Extension Officer under the Keralam Fisheries Department. The Crime Branch has booked the accused on charges of criminal breach of trust under Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code and misuse of official authority to grant undue favours under Sections 7 and 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Crime Branch has accused the chairperson and members of stacking the deck in favour of Left-leaning candidates from the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS), thereby depriving other qualified job aspirants of their constitutional right to equal opportunity in government employment under Article 16(1). The Crime Branch has also accused the KPSC chairperson and members of undermining public confidence in the commission, created to ensure an independent, fair, transparent, and merit-based selection process for public employment, insulated from political influence and favouritism. In October, the then Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar , wrote to President Droupadi Murmu, recommending the removal of Mr Baiju and other PSC members from office, citing disturbing irregularities and match-fixing in the conduct of public employment examinations.

Q3 2026 Employment Cost Index: Rising Healthcare Costs Keep Haunting Employers

Key points : Total compensation costs for private-industry workers rose 3.4% year-over-year in the third quarter, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), driven in large part by a 6.4% spike in employers’ health insurance costs. Benefit costs climbed 3.9%, outpacing growth in wages and salaries (3.1%). Adjusted for inflation, real wages fell 0.6% from a year ago, a second straight quarterly decline. Wage growth is falling, but employers’ total compensation costs are rising — a sign that workers are getting paid more on net than they were a few years ago, but taking home less of it in their paychecks as the cost of employer-provided health insurance continues to soar. The tradeoff may be going unnoticed or unappreciated by workers hyper-focused on affordability issues after seeing their real wages decline for the second straight quarter when accounting for high inflation. Employers seem to be noticing the interest in sponsored health plans and are putting health coverage front and center in their job postings as they compete for workers’ attention — especially as wage growth slows and competing solely on pay may be getting more difficult. So far in 2026, 46.9% of US job postings on Indeed mentioned health insurance, up from 45.0% in 2025 and 35.7% in 2022.

'No nation left behind' says Burnham after meeting first ministers in Glasgow

Andy Burnham met the first ministers from Scotland and Wales and representatives from Northern Ireland in Glasgow The prime minister has said the UK's four nations must "move together" to devolve more power to regions and cities, following a meeting with the Scottish and Welsh first ministers in Glasgow. Andy Burnham said he wanted to ensure no nation was "left behind" after the sit-down, which also included representatives from Northern Ireland. SNP leader John Swinney said he welcomed recognition that "Westminster is not working for Scotland" and pledged to work "constructively and collaboratively" with Burnham, while Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iowerth said the meeting was "positive". Both first ministers have called for a wider conversation about independence but Burnham has ruled out referendums. Scotland 'not like Manchester', Swinney says in dig at PM Burnham Burnham invites Swinney to work together on 'deeper Scottish devolution' First minister says Budget not serious about Wales ahead of meeting with PM Speaking after the first National Economic Council for the nations in Glasgow, Burnham highlighted plans for devolution at the regional level, saying he wanted to ensure no nation was "left behind". "It's really important we all move at the same pace together, and I won't allow anything to delay that," the prime minister said. People need to see improvements in employment and in living standards in all parts of the UK." Northern Ireland was represented by officials at the meeting amid the political fallout from the Drumcree parade dispute . Burnham held talks with first ministers John Swinney (left) and Rhun ap Iowerth (right) Ministers and representatives at the summit discussed handing regions more powers to control employment support and funding for reindustrialisation. The prime minister said the UK government would look at "arrangements for further devolution of employment support for young people in both Scotland and Wales". Devolution has been at the heart of Burnham's policy agenda since he took his place in Downing Street this summer.
