For many young IT professionals in Bengaluru, managing rent, groceries and daily expenses on an entry-level salary can be challenging. However, a recent social media post has highlighted just how different monthly spending can look for two people working in the same industry and living in the same city. Shubhi and her husband, both senior software engineers , spend around ₹ 1.73 lakh every month on their household expenses. Many freshers joining India's IT services sector start with annual salaries of around ₹ 3.4-3.6 lakh. Depending on the salary structure and deductions, these packages can translate into a monthly take-home salary of approximately ₹ 22,000-27,000. Their average monthly travel expenditure of ₹ 75,000 is almost three times the monthly salary of an entry-level employee. Delhi-NCR pollution curbs: GRAP Stage-II implemented ahead of Diwali – Here's what is allowed & what is not | Explained

Delhi-NCR has moved to Stage-II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) as air pollution levels deteriorated sharply, with the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoking the 'Very Poor' air quality measures across the entire National Capital Region (NCR) with immediate effect on Monday, November 2. The decision comes ahead of Diwali, as Delhi's Air Quality Index ( AQI ) climbed to 324 on Monday, placing it in the 'Very Poor' category. The city's air quality had deteriorated from the 'Moderate' category on October 31, when the AQI was 117, to the 'Poor' category on November 1, with an AQI of 261. GRAP Stage-II brings in measures to curb air pollution when the AQI reaches the “Very Poor” category. The related article places this category in the AQI range of 301 to 400. Delhi’s AQI rose to 324 on Monday, putting it in the “Very Poor” category. Vehicles without valid PUC certificates: Vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control ( PUC ) certificate face enforcement action, including penalties and possible denial of fuel at petrol pumps. 6. Government and private offices in Delhi have been directed to restrict physical attendance to 50% between November 1 and January 31, with the remaining workforce required to work from home. Even as unemployment falls, lack of ‘decent work’ in India

Subscribed with another email? Measured this way, India’s labour market persistently exhibits high levels of informality, insecure employment, and increasing inequalities. Using two rounds of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), 2017-18 and 2023-24, the quality of employment in India has been analysed. Though employment opportunities are increasing, labour protections and job security are not improving at the same pace. Agriculture, which continues to employ the largest share of India’s workforce, remains the lowest-quality employment generating sector. Workers remain dependent on casual employment, subcontracting chains and insecure labour arrangements. Nearly 90% of India’s workforce remains informally employed, a share that has risen since 2019, according to the India Employment Report 2024 (ILO–IHD). However, informalisation of jobs reduces decent work creation in India over time. India has to shift from a ‘job-counting approach’ to a ‘job-quality approach’. Until then, India’s employment success story will remain incomplete — no nation can call itself developed while its workforce remains insecure.
